    Description

    Woodworking Marking Gauge
If you are one of those craftsmen that have tools in your tool cabinet like Lie Nielsen, Veritas, Starrett or perhaps some hand forged Japanese saws and chisels, then this marking gauge is one more unique tool for your collection. This is the ideal tool for woodworkers, luthiers and many other craftsmen.
The marking gauge is made from tool steel, stainless steel, wood and brass. In particular the body of the gauge is made from tool steel (case hardened) and inside the body there is a threaded
phosphor bronze bushing; both materials offer
wear resistance for long service life. The body is decorated with olive wood.
The shaft is made from stainless steel and it is threaded on both ends; one end takes the disc cutter, the other end takes the brass stopper.
The gauge can mark from 1.0 up to 160mm
The body of the marking gauge has an extra feature. Right beneath the knurled brass thumb screw there is a plastic set screw; by adjusting this screw you can control the friction applied of the shaft.
The marking gauge comes with 2 cutting discs (from reputable supplier) for wood marking, a small bottle for oil, a wrench and all the necessary replaceable parts.
The case is made from solid Niangon wood, Wenge and plywood. The lid of the case outside is dressed with beige leather. The case inside is dressed with brown velvet paper.

The oil shown in the small bottle its only for demonstration purposes and is not included with the bottle due to shipping regulations. You can use light machine oil (SAE 10) to fill the bottle and use it to lubricate the tool.
    Notice:
Brass is naturally oxidized by air. So it is possible to find the metal surfaces darker.
    Useful tips
Before using the tool it will be wise to lubricate the shaft and the bronze bushing with a couple of drops of oil, this will enhance the movement and minimize the friction. The phosphor bushing is accurate within +0.005mm, with proper lubrication it will have long service life before you need to replace it with the spare bushing supplied with the set.
The knurled thumb screw locks the stainless shaft effectively with very little force from your fingers; in conjunction with the friction adjusting screw the force needed from your fingers will be minimal.
The HSS cutting disc can mark easily soft and hard wood; for better results you can polish it with a honing stone.
Remember that the body of the gauge is steel; although it's hardened it can get oxidized, so when is not in use apply a thin coat of lubricant (WD-40 or similar).
