Description
Maria Callas writes a short, personal note in pencil on her personal stationery thanking her hostess for a wonderful evening. The card is printed "Battista e Maria Meneghini." She has crossed out "Meneghini" so that the card is from the more personal "Battista e Maria." (Battista is her husband Giovanni Battista Beneghini.)She writes "I only wish to say thanks for your wonderful evening of yesterday and for your wonderful friendship." Although she does not sign the card, the the script is recognizable as her handwriting. The envelope is hand-addressed in ink to Mrs. Walter Cummings, 1420 Lake Shore Drive, Chicago. (Walter Cummings was Maria Callas's lawyer in her court case against her former agent E. Richard Bagarozy). The return address on the back is the Sheraton Blackstone Hotel, Chicago, Illinois
Both the card and envelope are discolored on the verso from mounting glue. (There are no watermarks on the original documents.)
